Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK) or "Farm Science Centre," is a district-level knowledge hub to provide agricultural knowledge and technology for the benefit of the farming community across the district. The core mandate of the KVK is to assess, refine, and demonstrate agricultural technologies, capacity building of farmers & farm women, rural youth, in-service personnel, production of seeds & planting materials, showcase of demo units, field visits and organise multiple extension activities for wider application and capacity development for farmers. KVK acts as a knowledge and resource centre to bridge the gap between agricultural research and location-specific application. KVK, Nabarangpur, strongly believes in the principles of "learning by doing" and "seeing is believing" to drive the adoption of proven modern agricultural technologies.
KVK working for “achieving sustained growth in production, where natural resources are judiciously utilised without impairing the environment & soil health and rejuvenated without affecting the natural eco-system, where farmer’s knowledge is decisive and technology is localized, where soil is fertile and yield is high and critical infrastructure is need based, flows of various schemes and programmes from all the corners and add value to produces, where farmers feel remunerated with smile in face and impact of disaster is negligible, investment is farmer friendly and welfare is the motto, we visualise such an eminence where everyone prosper and no one sleep in empty stomach and balanced food is available adequately”.
The mandate of KVK is Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development.
To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK
On-farm testing(OFT) to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
Frontline demonstrations(FLD) to establish the production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
To work as a Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sectors in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
